London’s Chinese Feng Shui Consultants & Bazi Astrology Masters
2024 marks the 25th year of Rising Dragon Feng Shui – we incorporated as a company in February 2000. So much has changed since I first came to the UK to study law at the start of the 90s. Few people knew what pak choi or char kway teow were back then, let alone what Feng Shui and Bazi were!
Nowadays, I consider the UK to be very culturally sophisticated. Not only do many people love the foods that have come from Asia, they’ve also developed a long term love for many parts of its culture like the great wisdom traditions of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, the martial arts, the healing arts and the metaphysical arts.
One thing I adopted as a Malaysian Chinese who grew up in Canada was the appreciation of the American standards for customer service. To me this meant:
Being friendly and respectful of all – American service is so nice!
Doing the best we can to accommodate the wishes of clients whilst still being true to what traditional Feng Shui actually is – American service always tries to give the customer what they want
Going over and above to raise standards – Americans love to give big portions
Continually working our backsides off behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly – American service standards does its best to make life easy for the customer
These ways of thinking aren’t part of Chinese culture.
The line, “Please, sir, I want some more“, is undoubtedly the most famous line from the classic Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. Said by a pitiful young, orphaned and hungry Oliver to a church workhouse employee, Oliver is not only refused more food, but he is treated like a dreadful sinner and criminal for merely asking for a bit more soup after a gruelling day’s work!
Victorian British culture is similar to traditional Chinese culture as both had strict codes of conduct with a harsh disciplinarian attitude towards people. Traditionally, Feng Shui masters would be very tight with the advice they give and the idea of them trying accommodate you was outrageous. For the emperors, OK, but for anyone else, the Feng Shui master would tell you only what they want to tell you and would harshly reprimand you if you asked for more, letting you know clearly that you are Oliver Twist when it comes to asking for help in overcoming your sufferings.
There are actually good reasons for traditional Feng Shui masters being so difficult. Feng Shui, Bazi and their related arts are considered “revealing the secrets of heaven and earth“. To reveal more than an individual has merits for is taboo. In our lives each and everyone of us, whether rich or poor, will have to undergo many trials and tribulations. These are a result of our carried karma. It is our fate to have to face these challenges as a way of atonement. If we meet them through correct and proper means, accepting our part in their creation, we will go up a level. As the Chinese proverb goes:
Calamity does not enter one's door by accident.
One either created it, is associated with it, or one invited it in.
This means we either started the karma in a past life, we are drawn into through association with someone else who did the misdeed such as a relative, or we did something stupid and regrettable in this life, such as having an affair or stealing. Because of one of these, we face a test.
Since undergoing ordeals and facing obstacles is the universe’s way of having us make up for our mistakes, if a Feng Shui master helps us evade justice without getting us to repent and reform in a more intelligent manner, then they would be held responsible. This is like someone who sets prisoners free for a bribe. It damages the system and society. Consequently many Feng Shui practitioners, especially modern Western ones, come and go. Ignorant to the laws of karma, they suffer strange fates. Many Feng Shui consultants will die early, suffer incurable diseases or accidents and face an impoverished old age. How can this be when they claim to know all the answers? They broke the laws of heaven and earth.
Thinking of the Feng Shui consultants I knew when I started, only a minority are still active. Some died suddenly, others still have serious illnesses that prevent them from enjoying much of life.
Even one of my teachers, Dato Joey Yap, has said he is likely to die before he is 60. This gives him up to 12 years. I hope he won’t, as I appreciate him greatly. The Feng Shui community would be poorer without him. May he have the merits to escape his forecast.
My root guru however is different. His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng is still vibrantly healthy at 80! He wears no glasses, has better hearing than most young people and still performs 250 press ups daily! He has helped countless people, directly intervening in their karma including famous American author Demi’s disappearing tumour, Mr Cai’s vanishing gallstones, Lianhua Yongsi’s deformed toe that straightened out, or Tina Mottini’s one in a million SPS Stiff Person Syndrome disease to give just a few.
He gives his time 7 days a week to teach and help people overcome their suffering, writing over 300 books to date. He openly states that many times he has had to overcome great obstacles, yet because he has reached true union with the heart of the universe and embodies the most profound, transcendent compassion for all, he has been able to walk the middle way for over 50 years. This is just one of the reasons that millions of students celebrate him as the greatest teacher of our times.
Although I am grateful to all the many masters we’ve learned from over the years, if it wasn’t for the constant instruction and empowerment of His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng, we wouldn’t have been able to overcome our own obstacles and grow to be what we are now, let alone help so many others overcome theirs.
All the while through this, we have maintained a firm commitment to remain true to the authentic lineages of traditional Feng Shui, whilst innovating to fuse it with American service standards. It has been a really exhilerating journey, even though it hasn’t always been easy.
As a validation that overall, we’re getting more things right than wrong, we very unexpectedly won an award! And not just any award. To put it simply, we are the top rated service provider in the UK for client satisfaction according to Houzz.
This was really touching for us, since it happened without our knowing anything till Houzz got in touch to say we won. Whilst we’ve won many awards in the past, to get this just as we turned 25 was as sweet as cake.
We had hoped that Houzz might give us champagne, roses, cake and all expenses paid weekend at the Ritz. There would be appearances on chat shows and interviews for the news.There would also be a glorious golden trophy that we could hold up and wave as cameras went off and the audience went wild…
In the end, all we got is this logo to stick on our webpages as verification from them and their community that we really do our best to walk our talk and give you satisfaction when you take a Feng Shui consultation or a Bazi astrology reading from us. It shows automatically in our Houzz profile too.
It made the long hours of toiling away at risk of taking on our customer’s evil karma and suffering a strange and unpleasant fate that bit better!
