A Kill Switch for the Fire Age: How the Art of Date Selection Helped an AI Start-up Launch on Time
When a UK start-up building an off switch for AI needed to hit a narrow launch window, it came to Rising Dragon Feng Shui for a Ze Ri date-selection forecast. Master Charlotte reflects on Period 9, the Fire Horse year, and how the kswitch team arrived in the right shape, at the right place, at exactly the right time.
To the uninitiated, spirituality and technology seem worlds apart. In reality, they are more entwined than you might imagine. Business leaders around the world quietly consult feng shui experts on everything from the seating and layout of their headquarters to the timing of major decisions — my own practice has advised senior executives at some of the world’s largest technology companies for many years.
So, when an AI start-up came to Rising Dragon for guidance, it was less strange a pairing than you might think.
From a feng shui perspective, none of this technological surge is a surprise. In 2024, the Jia Chen Wood Dragon year, we entered Period 9 — a roughly twenty-year cycle in which fire is the dominant qi. Fire, amongst other things, governs electricity and power, and every technology that runs on them. Now we have come to 2026, the Bing Wu Fire Horse year — fire upon fire — and we are seeing AI hit critical mass as businesses everywhere rush to harness it for competitive advantage.
Like the introduction of the smartphone twenty years earlier, there is no burying one’s head in the sand and hoping it will all go away. This is the will of the heavens, and the best thing we can do is strive to see it adopted with care, for purposes that benefit and enrich the lives of others.
Care is the operative word. AI has the power to transform our world — but unchecked, it could do more harm than good. The newest systems are “agentic”: they do not merely answer questions, they act, and they can create further agents to act for them. That scenario is especially terrifying as financial institutions move to adopt AI into their infrastructure. If something goes wrong, what do we do?
Can we just hold the power button down for 3 seconds to force a reset?
One UK-based tech startup, kswitch, is addressing these fears. Founded by a senior technology executive, with in-depth experience behind the scenes of the technology and infrastructure used by banks and other financial services providers, kswitch has come up with a clever way of allowing agentic AI the authorisation it needs, whilst retaining control with the ability to shut any of them down — without a calamitous crash of essential banking services.
In essence, this is similar to some feng shui and Taoist principles. These recognise that good and evil coexist; you can’t have one without the other. In every building there are auspicious energies and there are negative ones. Many practices seek to restrain the troublesome energy whilst allowing the free expansion of the positive energy. It is a tough balancing act, because the only way to get rid of evil is to get rid of good too! Then all that would remain is neutral. Yet in order to gain advantages, we must take the risk of unleashing the possibility of trouble arising, and work to manage that.
There is a second parallel. Feng shui has no kill switch of its own — no single cure that flattens every negative influence in one stroke. We work by placement, redirection and timing, managing what we cannot abolish. It can be added through the True Buddha Tantric Dharma but that’s not part of standard feng shui.
AI doesn’t include a big red “stop” button natively either — but one can now be added, thanks to kswitch. The company’s platform gives every AI agent a verified identity of its own, checks each action against its organisation’s rules and boundaries before it runs — not after — and keeps a record of everything that happened, so a misbehaving agent can be switched off cleanly without taking everything else down with it. The kill switch is where the name comes from; the authorisation and governance is why it works.
There is a dual character to the approach that readers here will appreciate: the newest of technologies, held to traditional values. The agents keep their freedom to work and to multiply, as agentic AI wants to do, but always within time-tested principles of governance and compliance.

Behind the scenes it was frenetic activity daily, as the system underwent development and rigorous testing — but choosing the right days to go public and conduct marketing and sales operations meant a much greater chance of being accepted before competitors released rival products.
By feng shui analysis, next year — Ding Wei, the Fire Goat — will see the emphasis on transformational technology continue, and the fire qi driving it will not shift to a different energy until the mid-2040s. This era is not a passing phase, and neither is the need to manage it wisely. There is great potential for
