Motorola’s Secret Patented Feng Shui Technology

Motorola's Secret Patented Feng Shui Technology

Feng Shui often seems inconceivable. It can sound a tall tale that the difference between normal and depressed is just a few degrees on the compass, or that moving into a certain building will turn a God fearing prude into a licentious bed hopper. But the idea that giant corporations are developing digital devices to replace the time tested Feng Shui loupan compass seemed to preposterous even to us, who’ve seen everything from haunted houses to Malay Gong tau to Haitian Voodoo performed live. Surely not.

Think again.

Motorola created a portable Feng Shui measuring device for which they were granted a patent in the last year of the dog, 2006. Wait a minute, I hear you say. Motorola? Surely you mean LG? Or Samsung? Or Huawei? A tech gadget manufacturer from the Far East.

Nope. It’s 100% born in Illinois, USA Motorola. A snippet of the patent reveals:

A communication device (112) includes a communications receiver (120), an AM/FM receiver (124), a three-dimensional Hall-effect sensor (226), a digital camera (128), and a GPS receiver (130), which each have multiple uses. In addition to their usual functions, the various capabilities of the respective elements (112, 120, 124, 226, 128, 130) can be used to provide data for evaluating a location in accordance with the principles of Feng Shui. A processor 116 reads values from the devices (112, 120, 124, 126, 128, 130) and uses the values to evaluate a given location in accordance with Feng Shui criteria. An overall Feng Shui value is determined for a given location.

The actual Feng Shui device, from what I can gather, was quite advanced by 2006 (pre-iPhone!) standards. It had a camera which could check colours of a property, a built in compass and was able to sense for noise pollution from roads or other common problem sources using a built in microphone.  It also had a radio receptor that let it sense the level of EMF at the location.

Perhaps not surprisingly, as a contributor to the electrosmog we all now bathe in, Motorola haven’t brought the Feng Shui device through to being commercially available although they did file and still hold the patent on it’s design. But it’s got me wondering… what if Samsung are working on the next generation Feng Shui device now? If you guys are reading this, put me on the Beta Testers list please!

Until then, the reality remains that Feng Shui is complex. It has two sides. A Yang or fixed side and a Yin or variable side. Some rules work for eveDetails of ryone, like don’t have a blockage immediately outside your front door. This is from the Yang or fixed rule side as it works for everyone. But lots of the other rules don’t make any sense unless put in context.

Let me explain this with an analogy. Suppose I ask you which way is up and which way is down. You probably point above your head for up and look down at your feet for down. Yet on the other side of the planet is someone answering exactly the same as you only when you say up, that direction is below their feet and down from where they are. When they say up you say down!

Likewise many rules in Feng Shui come from the Yin or moving aspect of the art. These make no sense unless they are given from the context of you. So what is perfect Feng Shui for you might actually be the worst Feng Shui for someone else. Just like up and down are only up and down when measured from where you are, so too the variable rules of Feng Shui are only good or bad when calculated specifically from where you are.

To this day the only technology we have available to us that can consistently calculate both the easy, general rules for all and the tricky, person buy person variable rules is a well trained and experienced classical Chinese Feng Shui Master.

By all means, try a few of Feng Shui general rules for yourself. Get to know some basic principles about how Qi flows and what to avoid when choosing a house. Twenty years of professional experience consulting for a living has shown me on many occasions that trying to DIY an entire household’s Feng Shui yourself is generally a bad idea. There are the variable rules, the exceptions to the rules and then, as if that wasn’t confusing enough, there will most likely be contradictory information in the results of your calculations if use multiple systems.

For example your Ba Zhai Eight Mansions might not sit nicely amongst the Flying Stars of your house and even if you move to Na Yin auxiliary locations the Xuan Kong Da Gua Sixty Four Hexagrams may not want to play nicely. These problems are not unique to you. They’re normal in Feng Shui calculations. Knowing how to work with this, which layer will balance the other and so on requires more than just pHD standard Wu Xing Five Elements theory, it requires years of practice and experience. It’s why traditionally, Feng Shui masters were old – they had to spend at least a decade in training before they could be considered skilled enough to work with another person’s karma.

In this modern age, people learn from books and the internet, but as anyone who has tried getting in the martial arts cage will tell you, not even the best weekend intensive in the world ever will make you a master. Things don’t go the way they did in the classroom when it’s going off. To know that if you let this punch come, you’ll be able to grab a lock and win takes a lot of practice and that’s similar to the Feng Shui master. They’ll know what to parry and what to grab. For this reason, I recommend that you work with a Feng Shui expert that has plenty of experience as well as a strong lineage.
