Heard of Wind Turbine Syndrome?

Wind Turbine Syndrome, Electrosensitives & Other Modern Environmental Factors In Traditional Feng Shui

Living near industrial wind turbines? Apparently ‘Wind Turbine Syndrome’ is now a real thing to consider according to some governments. The symptoms include headache, irritability, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, dizziness, anxiety and sleep disturbance and whilst it only affects some people, those symptoms indicate it is a very real suffering for those affected.

I’m yet to have come across a case (compared to many people I’ve met with respiratory problem from conventional power generation), but I’ll keep my eyes out for it.

The modern world has numerous environmental factors that are potentially damaging for health:

  • Sources of high EMF like military radar, emergency services communications or even civilian telecommunications equipment can affect sensitive individuals
  • Excessive electricity such as living close to pylons
  • Dirty electricity caused by noise of circuits
  • Radon gas
  • Geopathic stress
  • Living under the flight path of low flying aircraft
  • Living near embassies or intelligence service stations
  • Farmer’s fields or nearby public spaces sprayed with chemicals or ferilizers
  • Industrials run offs and pollution
  • Black mould

These sorts of facors are outside the scope of traditional Feng Shui as the majority are a side effect of modern technological advances which weren’t in existence when it was formulated. Does this mean it is getting out of date?

Let’s look at an example. Within every community we see many phone masts these days. Some studies have linked these to cancer and many people advise avoiding speaking on a mobile phone for long periods of time without turning the speaker phone on. Why is it that some people get the issues and others not?

Feng Shui and BaZi tell us that at a certain time and in a certain place an event will happen. Typically, those who get a terminal illness will have marks of inauspiciousness within both their home and their astrology. When the two meet, the problem happens.

Looking deeper into this, Buddha taught that those who have accumulated the karma of killing will suffer a premature death, sometimes by a violent act, but often by either accident or illness. For example, in the Noble Mahayana Sutra entitled “The Exposition of Karma“, Sakyamuni Buddha teaches us:

Almost everyone has accumulated some of this non-virtuous karma, whether through acts of warfare and violence, through rejoicing, facilitating or planning them or through non-vegetarian diets. In addition, even those who have avoided most of these still may have stepped on bugs or swatted mosquitoes. Then there are the modern ways of mass killing lifeforms we can’t see with our naked eye, like the use of antibiotic and antimicrobial cleaning agents. It is incredibly difficult to have a human existence and not kill anything.

As a result these karmas will appear in one’s Feng Shui, and indeed modern architecture frequently has many more harmful features than older buildings. If one finds oneself living in such a place, then one should definitely start taking steps to counter this build up of bad karma. One should strive to do the opposite actions for example:

  • One opposes the taking of life and tries to help others avoid circumstances where they might die
  • One encourages others to avoid taking life
  • One praises those that find non-violent means to end disputes and warns others of the dangers of thinking that killing is acceptable or non-harmful to the self
  • One tries to help others avoid circumstances where abortions might occur such as encouraging friends to form meaningful relationships and avoid flings or drunken one-night stands
  • One tries to avoid the use of harsh chemicals or other toxins that can harm life, however small and seemingly insignificant it may appear
  • One tries to reduce meat and fish consumption. Having some days as vegetarian is even better
  • One avoids rejoicing in acts of violence such fight sports, war movies or killing video games
  • One feels remorse for any past misdeeds and resolves to keep trying to be better

Simple deeds such as these can counter the bad karma. Anyone can do them as they don’t require a spiritual path, just a commitment towards deeds which anyone can logically deduce are wholesome.

If one also has the will to perform spiritual practice to reduce the karma faster, that is also excellent.

Because of the proliferation of unwholesome activity by people of our times, who celebrate people fighting in cages, give awards to mives with big explosions and shooting in, who farm and clean with toxic chemicals and whose military technology is more terrifying than anything ever seen, we live in times where there will be increases in the anti-life factors in our environment. Yet if we strive to purify our own karma, we should be able to keep our own homes free from the inauspicious signs that foretell an early or painful death. Feng Shui doesn’t need to include the study of each and every new technology to still be relevant. Buddha and the sages already have their infinite number of expressions of killing energy built into the system. As long as karma exists, traditional Chinese Feng Shui will still be relevant.
