I want to understand what pop up windows are

A pop up window is the name for a new browser screen that appears after you click a link. They were invented for a very good reason. Different people have different sized monitors and web pages on big screens sometimes appear bare or stretched. On small screens they appear crowded or over sized. This is because web pages automatically try and fit your monitor as best they can.

Designers started to use pop up windows when they needed the webpage to look the same for all sizes of monitors. A pop up window has a fixed width and height and so consistency of layout is ensured.

Sadly unscrupulous people took the technology and gave it a bad name by using it to make adverts or other websites appear in new screens on your computer, sometimes without you asking. This only happens on sites that are owned by advertisers but Firewalls often block pop ups by default now because of this.

On Rising Dragon Feng Shui's websites, there are no adverts from third parties. We run three websites, this UK site (www.rising-dragon.co.uk), a US site (www.rising-dragon.com) and a Canadian one (www.rising-dragon.ca). We deliberately run pop ups from only the UK site so that it is easy to set up your software. Our pop up windows will only contain proper content suitable for viewing by anyone. Our current pop up content is:

There are a few other older pages which have graphics or links to third party sites in pop ups. If the links do not seem to work, the most likely cause is because it is in a pop up window and you have a firewall or pop up blocker which is stopping it working.

I need help configuring my firewall

To run Rising Dragon Feng Shui courses you will either need to add our site to you allowed list in your firewall or temporarily disable your pop up blocking software. Instructions are different for each software, so here are two common examples. If you are in doubt, consult your help files for your software.

Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security

1. Look for the Web Assistant Toolbar in your Internet Explorer
2. Remove any ticks next to the line that says "Block pop ups from this site"

If you don't see the Web Assistant toolbar, you'll need to allow our site another way.

1. Click Start, go to Programs and then open Norton Internet Security
2. When Nortons opens, click Ad Blocking and then the Configure button as shown below:
   
3. In the next page click Advanced
4. In the next page click Add Site - its at the bottom left corner
5. Type in www.rising-dragon.co.uk
6. Click our domain on the list of sites - it's listed under .co.uk
7. Click User Settings and remove the tick in the box next to Pop-up Ads - Use Ad Blocking Settings. Set the choice to Permit. See the picture below:
   
8. Click OK and you are all set!

Google Toolbar

1. Click the Options buttonor Google > Options... if the Options button isn't set to display
2. In the dialog box remove the tick next to Pop Up Blocker
3. Click OK

You can re-enable the Pop up blocker later by putting the tick back in after you are finished viewing our site.

I am using Windows XP2 and can't access your courses

The version of Internet Explorer that comes with Windows XP2 blocks pop up windows by default.

1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools > Pop-Up Blocker Settings
2. In the dialog box, type www.rising-dragon.co.uk then Add
3. Click Close

Pop-up windows will now be allowed from our site only.

Why do Rising Dragon Feng Shui Courses use pop up windows?

Rising Dragon Feng Shui courses are interactive. In many of the modules you'll get to practice your skills through exciting tests like dragging and dropping furniture to where you think they be placed. In order for this to work consistently for all our customers we needed to make the screen one fixed uniform size. Using a Pop Up window allows us to set the height and width of the browser window displaying the course so it the same for all users regardless of whether you have a huge monitor or a small laptop to run it on. Without employing this useful technology the cost of delivering consistent interactive media to you would be far higher and you as the end user would have to pay for that in higher course access fees. We want to make Feng Shui accessible to students the world over through high quality courses at affordable prices and this one small trade off is required to make that possible.

What are the Technical Requirements for using Rising Dragon Feng Shui Online Courses?

We have done our utmost to make our courses easy to access and so the majority of you will already have all you need to access them on your PC. If you don't, you can easily get the software you need for free. The requirements are:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or 5.0 for Apple users) or higher (get a free copy here)
• Real Networks Real Player One or higher (get a free copy here)

You'll need to allow pop up windows from www.rising-dragon.co.uk to view the course content.
